The talk of the town is miracle of childbirth and the pregnancy glow. No one talks about the constipation, the headaches, cramps and insomnia that come along with the so called pregnancy glow.
Your body goes through various hormonal as well a physical changes so by no means it a comfortable experience. No matter how healthy you are, pregnancy would bring you issues every now and then. It is something very natural.

If you are pregnant then you would experience heartburn often. This is because your body goes through many hormonal and physical changes during the pregnancy period.
Heartburn isn’t a major issue to worry about as it is totally normal but it could cause excessive discomfort during pregnancy.
Becoming constipated is very common during pregnancy. Your body undergoes many hormonal changes which slows down the digestion process.
Another reason could be the less amount of space left out for digestion. As the baby starts to grow, the space for your digestive system to function properly lessens.
Constipation is not something that you should worry about as it couldn’t cause complications to your pregnancy. In very rare cases, constipation could lead to faecal impaction. Faecal impaction is a large and hard mass of stool which gets stuck in the rectum. This condition can lead to serious illnesses and can cause complications in your pregnancy.
Morning sickness is regarded as an early sign of pregnancy but sometimes it can continue throughout the pregnancy period. Despite being called ‘morning sickness’, it could happen at any time of the day.
The symptoms of morning sickness include feeling nauseous and vomiting. Having morning sickness is not at all harmful to you and your baby but staying cautious is the best. Keep yourself hydrated throughout the day.
If you are vomiting excessively, inform your doctor.
During the pregnancy period, the hormones which make mucus are active. These same hormones cause your gums to swell up which eventually leads to bleeding gums.
A little soreness in your gums is quite normal but if your gums are bright red or pink-stained, then these are abnormal signs. These are likely to be signs of gingivitis. Gingivitis is harmless by itself, but it could lead to periodontitis if left untreated. This is treatable but it increases the risk of preeclampsia, which leads to preterm birth and an underweight baby. Thus bleeding guns could lead to pregnancy complications.
It is very understandable that a pregnant woman would have troubles in sleeping. With the constant bloating, leg cramps, abdominal pain and a constant need to pee, it’s usual to get insomnia.
Around 80 percent of pregnant women experience insomnia. Insomnia couldn’t harm your baby in any way possible but still lack of sleep is never good. Grab a proper rest and learn to let go off things that are troubling you.
Headache and Migraine
Hormonal changes during the pregnancy period could cause multiple unnecessary issues in your body.
Migraines are also caused by these hormonal changes and combinations of a few external factors, such stress, improper eating schedule or lack of sleep.
Leucorrhoea or vaginal discharge is considered to be completely normal during pregnancy. It is one of the early and noticeable signs of pregnancy.
The discharge is often white in colour and it’s consistency is thin and milky. It holds a very mild smell.If your discharge is yellow, red or green in colour or it smells quite strongly, you should rush to your doctor. This is risky because it might be a sign of vaginal infection. Discharge is not considered abnormal but it’s always recommended to mention it to your doctor. Use panty-liners or tampons if the discharge starts to irritate you.
Mild itching is okay and very normal to happen during pregnancy. This is because your body undergoes stretching and hormonal changes. At least 20 percent of pregnant women experience itching.
If your itching is getting out of hand and is driving you crazy, use a cold compress. It would grant you some sort of relief.
Try an oatmeal bath every once in a while and take lukewarm instead of hot baths. After your shower, use a fragrance-free body lotion to soothe your skin. If you want a more cooling effect, store the lotion in the fridge.
- Avoid all alcoholic drinks and tobacco or other stuff containing tobacco.
- Avoid the usage of cleaning solvents or pesticides that contains lead or mercury.
- Consume a balanced diet. Remember to include a sufficient amount of folic acid, iron and calcium in your diet.
- Try to travel as less as possible. If it’s necessary, try to do it in a safe travel way. Learn the correct usage of seat belt.
- Get enough sleep of 6-9 hours a day.
- Include low impact exercises in your daily schedule.
- Omit the usage of any kind of medications without the approval of your doctor.
- Stay away from any vigorous activities that could keep you at a risk of falling from a height, tripping over or overheating.
- Don’t consume unpasteurized milk or soft cheeses.
- Don’t eat fish as they are high in mercury content. Cook your food properly as undercooked foods including fish and eggs could cause complications.
- Stay away from heavy lifting and bending as much as possible during the later stages of pregnancy.
- Don’t take hot baths or spas. This is because high temperatures can be harmful to your baby or you could faint. It might also result in complications during child birth.
- Stay away from radiations such a X-rays.
If you suffer from constant heartburn, then avoid foods that upset your stomach. Try to consume smaller but more frequent meals with plenty of water. Make it a habit to drink water before and after every meal. Omit the habit of drinking water during your meals. Add more fruits, grains, fresh vegetables and other foods rich in fiber content to your diet on a daily basis.
Drink lots of water. Consume around 8 glasses of water everyday. It helps you feel less nauseous. Avoid the usage of any kind of medications if they cause discomfort to you.
